Spur gears, also known as straight-cut gears, are basic gear types featuring a cylindrical or disk shape with radial teeth. While the teeth are not straight-sided, they typically possess special forms for constant drive ratios, such as involute or less commonly cycloidal. These gears require parallel shafts to mesh correctly and generate no axial thrust due to tooth loads. Ideal for moderate speeds, spur gears can become noisy at high velocities.
