Sprout - Self-Watering Desktop Planter for small plants and succulents

For entry into the #POLYMAKERCHALLENGE! I aimed to craft something practical that drew inspiration from nature but filtered it through modernism and digital era sensibilities. The result is a design that stands out, fitting seamlessly in a modern home, on an Ikea shelf, or even at your desk at work. Functionality was key, along with clearly defining its purpose in its form. The outcome is Sprout, a self-watering desktop planter perfect for small plants and succulents. Representing a large seed or pod that's starting to sprout, the cracked shell allows the plant to grow while the petals on top conceal a port for watering. The pod itself serves as both the planter and reservoir, with a small planter shelf inside supporting the roots. ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: - After printing all parts, inspect the fit of the POD_L and POD_R sections. You might need to sand the flat areas along the seam for a snug fit. - Once satisfied with the pod's fit, apply a bead of glue along the seam edge. Use superglue for a strong bond or rubber cement/silicone caulk if you want to be able to open your pod later. - Insert the SHELF into the bottom section of one POD_L part. The tube running along the rear will aid alignment and keep it in place. - Align the other half of the pod and secure it with glue, ensuring a watertight seal along the closed edges. - Attach the PETALS to the pod, taking care not to clog the hole with glue. - Bond the pod to the BASE. - Enjoy your new creation!
