Sprocket & Chain Mechanism

A sprocket, characterized by its teeth or cogs, is a wheel that meshes with a chain, track, or other perforated material. The term 'sprocket' encompasses any radially projecting wheel engaged by a passing chain. Distinct from gears due to the absence of direct mesh and pulleys owing to their toothy nature, sprockets fit onto shafts and are secured via keys in keyways. Chains connect two sprockets - one acting as the driver while the other serves as the driven unit - transmitting motion and force between shafts. These chains specifically designed for motion and force transfer are referred to as power transmission chains. For more information, visit http://www.notesandsketches.co.uk/Chain_and_Sprocket.html.
