Springy Apple Cable Savers
cults3d
The new iPhone 6 / iPad Air charging/connection cable is smaller than its predecessors, making it prone to breaking at the joint between the connector and cable with regular use. This design aims to prevent cables from breaking by introducing a solution. Unlike other methods available to counteract this problem, the Springy Apple Cable Saver does not simply transfer the flex / break point away from the cable / connector joint to another point further up the cable. The Springy Apple Cable Connector effectively eliminates movement in the cable / connector joint area and controls the degree of curvature in the springy section. This stops kinking / tight curves that can weaken the cable over time. The springy area is designed to be 'springy', allowing the cable to spring back to nearly straight as much as possible, minimizing curvature that could result in breakage. Three .stl files have been provided, including the device end only, the usb end only, and both ends in one file. This design prints well on a Replicator 2 / 5th Generation Replicator, but the spring and internal support pin may pose challenges for some machines. PLA is recommended to make it really springy when using three shells and a high percentage of infill. This solution aims to benefit many Apple device owners...
