The new charging connection cable for the iPhone 6 / iPad Air is thinner than earlier cables and prone to breaking at the point where the connector meets the cable, due to frequent use. This innovation aims to prevent breakage by offering a better solution. Unlike other methods that simply transfer the flexible breaking point away from the cable connector joint, the Springy Apple Cable Connector all but stops movement in this area and also regulates the degree of curvature in the springy section. This eliminates kinking or tight curves that can weaken the cable over time. The springy area is designed to make the cable spring back to near straight as much as possible by gradually reducing curvature, which can cause it to break. Three STL files are provided: one with just the device end, another with only the USB end, and a third file containing both ends. This print works well on Replicator 2 / 5th Generation Replicator models, but the spring and internal support pin may present challenges for some machines. To make it extra springy when using PLA and 3 shells, a high percentage of infill is recommended. Hopefully, this will prove beneficial to many Apple device owners... Print Settings Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: Std / 0.20 mm Infill: 3 Shells / 75% infill Notes: It is recommended to use 3 shells and 75% infill with PLA to ensure the Springy Apple Cable Savers are strong and... springy. Use a Raft for a secure base, as this will help print springs well (although they may always appear stringy underneath due to movement and angle). Avoid using support. The necessary internal pin that prints up the centre should easily push out after printing (refer to images). Post-Printing Support removal... The central internal support pins can be seen in the images. They should easily push out from the centre, which helps to minimize movement of the spring during printing.
