spring loaded toilet roll axis
thingiverse
This is the replacement spring-loaded toilet roll axis for my antique toilet roll holder featuring an AM radio. The large three-dimensional printed parts can be any rigid material, but the small printed clamp part is printed with PETG because PLA tends to deform under stress. It's also printed in another direction, which makes it much stronger. You have to break out the supports in the smaller cylinder before assembly, and this process is very easy. It demonstrates why the clamp is not an integrated part of this cylinder. Installing the printed clamp can be a bit finicky, but its shape prevents it from falling out. Disassembly is best done by compressing the two cylinder parts until the clamp is past the hole, then rotate the cylinders and pull. By just pulling, you might damage the clamp. Steel spring: 60 mm long, 15 mm in diameter, with a wire diameter of 1 mm. Its length and stiffness are not very critical, but it must be at least 30 mm long, and high stiffness could overload the clamp.
