I've been relying on the design provided by VVihelnn to upgrade my Rep 1's delrin extruder drive block for a considerable period of time, but I've encountered two major issues with his creation that consistently cause me trouble. The corner of the arm acting as the pivot point is oversized, causing it to protrude beyond the base enough that tightening down the cap screws holding the extruder bracket and wiring strain relief in place becomes a true hassle. Furthermore, the overhanging portion repeatedly comes into contact with the bottom of my Rep 1's printer housing, making it incredibly challenging to apply downward pressure on the arm in order to release the spring tension. They would frequently snap and crack, usually right at the bearing mounting screw hole, even when I attempted various springs that promised to reduce the pressure enough for the filament to flow reliably again but instead became too loose. In addition to replacing numerous printed units from stock due to breakage issues, having a ready supply of backup units made printing go smoothly during production time as this would cause disruptions while doing an actual job print session I based my version on his: \nhttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:252007/#files and printed it in a solid block with no removable top plate instead using, which eliminates any potential damage when the printer runs low filament in future as one might assume it to still do by its nature due the spring pressure acting against moving downwards thus I found it more convenient that this. The Rep 1 extruder drive block modification with spring has successfully performed many printing sessions after its initial design, print at full resolution for quality finish and zero layer support structure during process which required removal but instead gave better part strength at desired angle on each side giving perfect smooth performance
