Spring Artist: Alan Bridgewater (1903-1962) Date: Unknown Medium: Portland Stone Dimensions: x Accession #: 1930P457 Credit: Gift from the artist Alan Bridgwater was born in Sparkbrook, Birmingham in 1903. He won a scholarship to study at Birmingham School of Art and studied there from 1923-33. At this time Bridgwater also worked in the studio of William Bloye, a Birmingham based sculptor. Spring depicts a female nude to the waist, showcasing an unmistakable influence from Cubism and new modes of representation by artists like Georges Braque. Braque's work can also be seen on display at the Institute. This object is part of Scan The World.
