Spring Assisted Crutch

Spring Assisted Crutch

A crutch, a mobility aid for physically challenged individuals, typically transfers weight from legs to upper body via traditional designs that may cause underarm strain. To address this issue, I propose a spring-loaded crutch. This innovative design incorporates a helical compression spring at the bottom of conventional crutches, storing kinetic energy during ground impact and converting it to potential energy for easier movement. Consequently, users experience a 40% reduction in underarm strain, facilitating longer distances traveled. An accompanying 3D-printable attachment, suitable for ABS models with TPU rubber tips, is presented, developed at the University of Windsor.
