Traditionally, terra-cotta pots were employed as substitute bird nests for starlings, which were hung on farmhouse walls. These avians would inhabit these pots and eliminate garden pests such as snails to nourish their offspring. The pots' small holes allowed the insertion of a branch serving as a landing pad, while the large opening facilitated post-nest cleaning.
