I love my SPOT GPS Satellite messenger more than anything! It's a sturdy little workhorse that can withstand some serious abuse. I've taken mine on quite a few wild adventures - it's been dropped from speeding vehicles not once but twice, tossed around in rainy conditions for days, and even survived being submerged in icy cold creek water. And to top it all off, it's seen its fair share of dashboard temperatures that would melt steel. Anyway, it was time to add some extra protection to my trusty sidekick! So I designed a rugged case with two convenient attachment points, held securely in place by strong cable ties that run through specially made holes. The case is carefully crafted not to interfere with the device's wireless signal, but may make accessing the emergency buttons a bit trickier. The new cover is built from glow-in-the-dark ABS plastic, providing visibility in even the darkest conditions. As for its design, I created it using OpenSCAD and roughly estimated the shape of the SPOT outline through trial and error - imagine how much easier it would be with an actual 3D scan! Just a heads-up: this design is tailored specifically to fit my SPOT Gen 2 device. The original Gen 1 and newer Gen 3 might not be compatible. This custom-made cover also includes two holes for attaching it securely to your backpack, giving you that extra sense of security when out in the field. A few tweaks are still possible - some parts of the shell sides feel a tad thin, and the floor could benefit from an additional 0.5mm of thickness. Here are my suggested print settings: - Rafts: No - Supports: None - Resolution: 2mm per layer - Infill: Minimum 15% - you can experiment with higher values for added strength.
