Spoolholder 10mm Axle 2020
thingiverse
After getting a Tronxy X5, I needed to extend my spool holder mechanism to 2020 extrusion based systems, but I couldn't find a simple solution that fit into my ecosystem. For my other printers, I use a 10mm axle and simple axle mounts to store and hold the filament spools. Just use two 4 or 5 mm t-nuts and two matching 10mm screws to mount the holder onto the printer's frame. Here are my other files that can be used with this kind of mechanism: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2504710 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2503185 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3363543 And a matching filament guide and backlash prevention system as seen on the images above. No need for any bearings or other complex mechanisms. The PTFE tubing keeps the filament aligned, straight and prevents backlash on retract or when fast movements towards the spool take place. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3930857 All I needed was a simple mount for dropping the spool onto. I'm not a big fan of using spool holders with bearings. In the end, you need filament guides and other stuff to avoid the rolls from unwinding themselves due to no friction policy. This works fine. I made the mount without side walls, so the axle can be mounted from both sides and there is no left or right. It's even possible to cascade them by using three mounts to create two or more spool holders. As always: FreeCAD source file included. Update: I replaced the initial design with a more rigid and better designed one. This one is far more stable at the base. I also added 0.5mm to the axle radius, which should avoid the axle from rubbing on the holder causing it to drift sideways.
