Spool Wheels for IKEA LACK Enclosure
thingiverse
I was thrilled with the concept of incorporating wheels for filament spools on my IKEA LACK enclosure. Nevertheless, I encountered three significant issues with the design. Firstly, I discovered that narrow spools struggled to fit, secondly, the wheels failed to roll smoothly, and thirdly, the wheels kept falling off whenever I lifted the lid. To address these problems, I used two 14-inch long pieces of 1/2-inch CPCV thin-wall pipe (5/8 inch OD) as axles and added custom supports. The result was a seamless rolling motion, allowing for three spools to fit comfortably, regardless of their width or narrowness. Additionally, the axles and wheels remained securely in place due to the clever design of the end supports, which featured a dimple that prevented them from falling off. These supports were also designed to be easily removable if needed.
