Spool Skeleton Mount for Delta Kossel
thingiverse
I needed to print a new spool holder for my Kossel Mini and the "Spool Strong Arm Mount for Delta & Kossel Printers" by bryhil caught my eye, but it seemed a bit overkill.\nIt was also a bit short for my spools.\nSo I designed a new one following similar lines in design like the double sided base (same part on left/right) and aiming for a strong enough holder but with less plastic usage.\nIt's a bit taller with a total height of about 12cm and a width of around 7cm.\nI added a bit more grip to the axle area for a good fit on an 8mm axle.\nI used a threaded steel rod with wing nuts and a spool adapter as pictured, but the wing nuts forced the bearings center to the inside and it binded a bit so I made a remix of a spool roller and it worked out great: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1763377\nThe base is only 3mm height, but I made it solid in Slic3r settings with holes for 3mm bolts that can be drilled to 4mm.\nIt can also be bolted to a wood base so it can be used outside the printer because if it's placed on top of the printer as pictured there may be a fire hazard.\nI have some spools with a metal center that has a notch and when the spool rolls over that notch using the roller center part instead of the triangular adapters pictured it can make the printer wobble.\nPrint Settings\nPrinter Brand:\nRepRap\nPrinter:\nKossel Mini\nRafts:\nNo\nSupports:\nNo\nResolution:\n0.4\nInfill:\n20%\nNotes:\nSlic3r Settings: Layer Height = 0.4 , First Layer Height = 0.2 (to make a 3mm height base) , Top solid layers = 5 , Bottom solid layers = 4 (to have a solid infilled base) , Brim width = 5mm .\nI printed with White PLA from BQ, Hotend at 200º for the first layer and 190º for the rest, Heatbed at 65º with a good coat of hairspray on top of 4mm round regular glass.\nUse active cooling with PLA I have a desktop fan blowing on it after the first layers.\nPost-Printing\nThis prints with smooth edges even with PLA :)\nThere may be some minor stringing to clean up depends on your printer/settings.
