Spool Insert 3D Solutech Spools
thingiverse
3D Solutech produces exceptional filament, but their spools are not designed for 8mm threaded rod. To overcome this issue, I've created an insert specifically tailored for their spools. This handy insert features numerous holes to minimize the amount of filament required and prints without supports or a brim. All my spool designs that aren't centered around a 608 bearing are engineered to print the interior hole precisely at 8mm. This results in a tight fit on many printers and filaments, due to shrinkage. To resolve this issue, you may need to thread the spool insert down the rod multiple times or drill it out to your preferred tolerance. If you prefer a custom clearance or diameter, send me a message and I'll do my best to post one that day. UPDATE: It's highly recommended to avoid using spool inserts altogether. Instead, try my Penultimate Spool Holder, which is ideal for printing from a flat surface. This design eliminates the need for inserting and removing spool hardware, and it "just works." All you'll need are four skateboard bearings and a stable base. The resulting setup is very light, easy to use, and highly flexible in terms of applications.
