Spool Holder with smoothrod
prusaprinters

I got some trouble with my bearings on the X-axis and ended up with a damaged smooth rod.
Thanks to Prusa Printers I got a replacement, but when I had installed the new rod I had the old damaged 37mm smooth rod lying around.
So I thought about how I can give the rod a new purpose.
When I played around I noticed that 608ZZ fit exactly onto the rod I had the idea to upcycle the smooth rod to a spool holder.
Some iterations of trial and error I ended up with this spool holder.
I made it modular, so you can decide whether you want it to be for one or more spools. If you want it to have one continuous rod or multiple ones.
Although I made this spool holder to upcycle a damaged 37mm smooth rod (fits for a double spool holder) you can use any other 8mm rod if you don`t have a damaged smooth rod lying around.

What you need:

The printed parts (depending how you want to be your spool holder to be)

Per Base:

1x M3x10mm

1x M3 hex nut

1x PC4-M10 PTFE fitting

Per Arm:

2x 5x25mm wood screw with half rounded head

Per filament mounting:

2x 608ZZ Bearings

The 8mm rod/rods

The spool holder consists of a base with an attachment for a PTFE coupling, the arms that hold the rod and the mounts for the spools that will be put onto the rod.
You simply stick the arms onto the base in order to have an easy alignment when screwing it under a shelf for example. Then you put on the PTFE coupling attachment and fix it in place with a M3x10 screw and a M3 nut.
