Summary This is a versatile filament spool holder with optical speed pickup that can rest on any flat surface or be securely attached to the back of a Flashforge Creator Pro using the included back plate adapter. I aimed to create an upgrade that could hold more than the standard spools provided with my creator pro, and took it a step further. To make this design accessible to as many makers as possible, I've employed common parts readily available at most hardware stores. The source code for the spool speed detection is currently under development. Instructions These .STL files are designed for the left-hand side of the setup; I need to mirror this configuration and create the corresponding right-hand side model. The speed sensor code is still in progress, but it will be based on Arduino and aim to interface with Sailfish for jam/issue detection at a minimum. When an issue is sensed, it will trigger alerts via text message, email, phone call, or even send a pigeon – just kidding about that last one! The Speed sensor itself is inspired by this design: Alternatively The bearings used in this spool holder are sourced from Lowes. To ensure smooth filament movement, you'll also need some rubber O-rings to place inside the bearing. All threaded components use 1/4-20 thread for the bearing shafts.
