Tried to find a spool holder, but most options come with rods that require bearings and I don't like the pressure and friction they create. I decided to make my own using a printed spine with 2x 608 bearings, which saves plastic where possible. It's not a winning design, but it works well and is tall enough to accommodate large filament spools. It combines the best of both worlds: bearing support and a large tube that's not a metal rod. The filament spool fits easily inside the spine, making it simple to remove and replace when needed. I've been using this setup successfully so far.
