UPDATE 5: Rod models have been fixed. UPDATE 4: The 5 bearings version rod has been added as requested, with the same pin lock that can be used. UPDATE3: A 5 bearings version with a smaller gap between the bearings has been added. UPDATE2: A suggestion to use a pin instead of a threaded rod was included, along with pin locks to insert next to the bearings and prevent them from collapsing. UPDATE: A longer version of the spool holder SpoolHolderUpdate3.stl for larger spools has been added. I wanted to use 608zz bearings with the spool holder at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2988540, so I edited it in OpenScad. Make sure to use the original file with OpenScad to make changes. To complete the project, you will need the nuts from the source thing, which can be downloaded here: https://www.thingiverse.com/download:5097047. The nuts were not modified and are included separately. SpoolHolderUpdate has 1mm extra space for 608zz bearings to roll freely. SpoolHolderUpdate2 has 2mm extra space for 608zz bearings to roll freely. You can use an 8mm (5/16") diameter threaded rod of length ~240mm (>200mm) to host the 608zz bearings. Since the threaded rod binds to the plastic, nuts are not necessary. Alternatively, you can use an 8mm (5/16") round rod, but you will need to solve the problem of holding it in place. Possible solutions include rubber bands or tape at the ends.
