Spool Holder (up to 10kg rolls)
thingiverse
This holder is designed specifically for larger rolls up to 10kg as clearly seen in the accompanying picture. It's actually the third iteration, which started out bigger and more complex with a focus on 10kg rolls, but I ended up simplifying it and making it more versatile so it can accommodate rolls as small as 1kg as well. It's also suitable for printing using smaller printers. To print this holder, you'll need a minimum build area of 250mm in one direction. When printed with the supplied settings, all pieces will use a total of 345 grams of plastic. The cost of materials is approximately $10 plus your own plastic. If you're planning to use a 10kg roll, it's recommended to print the roller end caps using PC material, but PLA or ABS will also work fine if that's what you have available. This holder is extremely durable and has been put through rigorous testing, including weighing in at 200 pounds (that's me standing on the rollers), and should last for many years without any issues. You'll need two non-printed parts: 608zz bearings and a length of 1 inch or 25.5mm diameter rod. I used 1 inch diameter wood rod, which can be found at most hardware stores in lengths of 6 feet for around $6, but you may prefer to use metal or PVC instead. You'll need four bearings, and it's essential to choose high-quality ones, especially if this holder is for a 10kg roll. I've tested many different types of bearings, including ceramic, and these are the ones I recommend due to their low friction levels.
