Spool Holder Spring
thingiverse
This spool holding spring is designed for spools with an inner diameter of 50-55mm.\r\n\r\nThe attached Fusion 360 file is parametric, allowing you to easily edit the "md" in Parameters to your desired value (4-5mm above the actual inner diameter of the spool).\r\n\r\nThe "hd" is hole diameter, and it's recommended to keep it 1-2mm above the shaft of the spool; currently set at 9mm.\r\n\r\nThis spring holds the spool in place using its shape's springiness, and I've made it with PLA, but ABS would be a more suitable option.\r\n\r\nUPDATE: The printed spring is now in use, and the spool moves freely without any issues, while the springs remain securely in place due to the tabs.\r\n\r\nUPDATE: This design also acts as a vibration dampener for the spool, which is particularly noticeable after installing filament dampeners (I've used these https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2127101) on my printer.\r\n\r\nUPGRADED: I added flanges to the opposite side of the spring, resolving an earlier issue where the spool would slip and fall onto its side, preventing proper extrusion; with this update, it now works perfectly, thanks in part to a 10mm gap between the flanges, which is consistent with most spools.
