Spool Holder

Spool Holder

Hi there!\r\n\r\nI recently got a free cabinet that perfectly fits my 3D Printer.\r\nIt also has a compartment for mounting filament rolls, which is exactly what I needed.\r\nAll I required were proper mounts for the axles, and I found them in another project of mine:\r\n\r\nhttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2503185\r\n\r\nI'm using the bulky spool holder that came with my Anet A8 along with this spoolholder:\r\n\r\nhttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1998669\r\n\r\nThe design is great, but I needed a bigger diameter for this project.\r\nSo I made a small remix to meet my needs.\r\n\r\nIn addition to changing the axle diameter to 10mm, I also added more material around the axle.\r\nThis resulted in a new inner axle hole that made the spool holder slightly unstable - at least to me.\r\n\r\nKeep in mind that I didn't add a proper thread, as it wouldn't work well for my use case.\r\nI'm using two spool holders with 10mm nuts on each side, which prevents the spool from moving sideways on the axle and turning the spool causes the axle to spin.\r\n\r\nWhile printing, the filament unrolls, and I move the spool along with the axle and the nuts.\r\nThere's no need for bearings in this setup.\r\n\r\nTalking about bearings: I believe they're a bad idea on a spool holder.\r\nThey can cause uncontrolled unrolling during fast print stops or when intentionally pulling filament while loading the extruder.\r\nIn that case, I would add breaks to the holder - just kidding!\r\n\r\nThis is a simple and clean solution that works for me.\r\nMaybe it has some use for others as well.\r\n\r\nMany thanks to Jorge Pi (https://www.thingiverse.com/jorgepi/) for his initial design.\r\n\r\nHappy Printing!
