A New Twist on 3D Printer Spool Holders. Action demo: https://gfycat.com/abandonedorangeimpala **UPDATE:** A holder for spool inserts has been added, capable of holding up to six inserts. *(The original intention was to embed the .gif directly in the post, but Thingiverse now converts all image files to .jpeg during upload, even if they are small.)* ___ *Note: The clearances on the turntable assembly are extremely tight (0.15mm). Ensure your printer is calibrated accordingly to avoid unnecessary sanding and filing.* Fed up with my existing spool holding solution, which struggled to accommodate my sample spool, I decided it was time for a change. Initially, I aimed to design a printer mod that would enable me to attach a spool to a peg connected to the printer. However, due to its current location, available resources, and space constraints, this modification proved unfeasible. After some deliberation, I came up with this design for a lazy-susan style spool holder that met all my requirements. ___ It takes practice to unload spools from your printer without causing damage, as the spool tends to unwind while on its side. On the other hand, rewinding spools is significantly easier. ___ **Hardware Requirements:** I managed to source the necessary parts from around the garage and have listed them below. **You can use this design without hardware,** but you will experience increased turning resistance, and the holder may slide across the table. If you choose not to use hardware, I recommend applying grease to the inner contact points; however, I haven't tested its effectiveness. A washer file is available for printing if you encounter difficulties finding suitable washers. *The effectiveness of these printable washers hasn't been tested yet. If you try them, please let me know how it goes.* 2x Washers * 37.6mm OD * 20.7mm ID * 3mm thick *Must have an OD < 38mm, must have an ID > 16.5mm, must be 3mm thick* 1x Lazy Susan Bearing * 32.35mm OD * 16.75mm ID * 6mm thick *Must have an OD < 38mm, must have an ID > 16.5mm, must be 6mm thick* There is some flexibility in the thickness of the hardware; however, the overall internal thickness should add up to approximately 12mm or more (within reason). You can print spacers if needed or try the printable washer file included with this Thing. *Again, the effectiveness of the printable washers hasn't been tested.* ___ *If I don't have an insert for your spool yet, I'm willing to create additional files if you ask nicely and provide an accurate ID of your spool.* **Supported Spools:** - **ANYCUBIC** - **AMOLEN** - **CC3D** - **Hatchbox** - **Solutech3D** *(Also works with Paramount3D)* - **Spidermaker** - Stronghero3D *(not yet QA tested)* - **ZiRO** ___ Other projects of mine mentioned in this post: [Fringe Science Warning Sign for 3D Printers](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3056818 "For the doomsday machine in your home office!
