The 3D printer's extruder was overworked due to excessive friction from the spool holder file, resulting in wasted energy and potential damage. I designed a new spool holder with bearings for smooth filament feed, drawing inspiration from Hatchbox 1 kg spools but adaptable to other brands as well. To build this design, you'll need: 2 high-quality bearings with a 4 mm shaft diameter, 13 mm outer diameter, and 5 mm height 1 steel shaft with a 4 mm diameter and 100 mm length Careful assembly is necessary when attaching the 4 mm steel shaft to the spool holder stand. A few light hammer taps will do the trick. If you encounter difficulties getting the bearing into the bottom of the spool holder, try sanding it lightly and applying a few gentle hammer taps. This should resolve any issues. For the top bearing, a few light hammer taps are usually enough to get it seated properly. Once the bearings are in place, slide the spool holder onto the steel shaft and let gravity do its job. Finally, simply push the spool onto the spool holder and it will latch into place easily.
