Spool Holder for Z8XM2 / 2040 V Slot Extrusion
thingiverse
The original spool holder that came with my Zonestar Z8XM2 was seriously lacking. First and foremost, the standoffs were not long enough to fit my spools, so I modified them to hold a spool. However, I still wasn't satisfied. So, I decided to search Thingiverse for a spool holder. The closest one I found that I liked was the Spool Roller for Folger Tech 2020 i3. Unfortunately, this was designed for 2020 extrusion, but my printer's horizontal piece on top is made of 2040 extrusion. I set off to design my own based upon QuadBert's design. Thanks are due to him for putting that out there! What you see is what I came up with. The width is adjustable by simply sliding one of the holders, which can be locked in place with an M5 screw and a T-nut. The bearings used are standard 608zz bearings, and four are needed per spool holder set. To hold the cap onto the main body, you'll need four M3 screws that are around six to eight or ten millimeters long. The holes are designed so the screw threads into the plastic. Obviously, you don't want to crank down on them; they just need to hold the cap onto the main body. This runs much better than the factory spool holder, and I've been very happy with it. I also included the Fusion 360 file in case you want to modify it. Hopefully, this helps. If it does, feel free to leave a tip! Enjoy!
