Spool Holder for Printrbot Simple Metal
thingiverse
One of our earliest projects when we set up the Fab Lab. We extensively searched online for spool holders but were largely unsatisfied with what we discovered. Most of them were excessively flimsy, hard to print, or simply unappealing in appearance. So, naturally, we designed one of our own!\nWe crafted the chassis from both 6mm corrugated cardboard and 5mm wood. We consider the wood to be far more elegant, but either will function properly. The axle was printed on the Printrbot with no need for support material or brim (merely keep in mind the curling that might warp the axle).\n\n \n \n Guidelines\nSimply cut out the chassis parts using a laser cutter. Our preferred tool is the Epilog Mini (hence, the 12" x 24" canvas size). Then apply wood glue and join the components together. Allow the chassis to set for roughly a day.\nOn the Printrbot, print the axle alone. No support material or brim is necessary. Make sure that the initial few layers adhere securely to the printer bed. If using painter's tape, it's advisable to attempt getting the print onto a single strip of tightly wrapped tape.\nAssemble and you're ready!
