Spool holder for 8mm frame - for lazies
thingiverse
I was searching for a spool mount for an 8mm acrylic frame with bearings but couldn't find what I needed, so I designed my own. You'll need four standard 8x22x7 (608) bearings. Setting it up is a breeze - just 30 seconds of work! The design uses four 608 bearings that snap into place without any screws or threaded rods required. Snap-on guide pulleys make it easy to adjust the spool width, and it's suitable for spools starting at 19cm in diameter. Theoretically, this mount is stable, although it's not connected. It includes a filament guide for added convenience. Note that the fastening clips holding the 8mm frame are relatively short (14.5mm and 4.5mm) due to an LCD blocking longer fasteners in my case. This means the mount isn't tightly fixed, but you can modify the design to suit your needs. Furthermore, this design may experience higher friction compared to other bearing-based mounts. Update: I've added a v3 version that uses only two bearings and eliminates friction entirely. However, it will only accommodate spools with an outer diameter of 200mm or less and an inner diameter of 57mm (Kiboplast). STEP files are available for anyone who wants to make adjustments.
