UPDATE: an updated and customizable version is now available here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:731318 . The newer design makes lifting out the spool holder rod much easier, so I recommend using it instead of this original version. The M3D printer's internal spool holder has several limitations, which prompted me to take a different approach. To simplify things, I opted for mounting filament spools on top of the unit, directly above the extruder. By doing this, I used the printer's chassis as a stable base. These brackets are designed to be minimalist, focusing solely on functionality. Two sets of these brackets are needed - one for each side of the printer - and can then be completed with any standard 1/2" OD dowel, rod or tubing. The top tube must measure exactly 6" in length, but the vertical risers' height can be adjusted to accommodate your specific spool size requirements and provide enough clearance above the printer. Multiple spools can fit securely on these brackets.
