Spool Holder
thingiverse
This is a filament holder designed for use with FoxSmart filament spools, although it's possible that recent changes to their spool diameter may have affected its compatibility. Fortunately, this design does not require bearings and has proven to be effective at removing plastic from the spool. I'll be uploading images of my own setup later, as well as a version specifically designed for Hatchbox Spools. The inspiration behind this design comes largely from thing:774334 on Thingiverse. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: .2 Infill: 20 Notes: The infill and resolution are not crucial factors in this design, as I've simply used the settings that worked for me. It's likely acceptable to reduce the infill percentage below 20%, but I didn't prioritize saving plastic during printing. Assembly: Print two spool holders (the larger cylindrical objects) and one mounting block (the rectangular piece). Use an M10 rod or a 3/4 inch rod, as I did, and attach it to support rods via the mounting block and nuts on either side of the plastic part. Repeat this process for the smaller section and threaded rod for the filament holder. Next, place two nuts and a spool holder on the left of the filament, then insert the filament onto the rod. Place another spool holder with two more nuts, followed by pressing fit the spool holders on either side of the filament. Finally, tighten the nuts to secure everything in place while ensuring the spool can still spin freely.
