Spool Holder 1 Piece with Heat Gun Lids for 608 Bearings and 8mm Rods
thingiverse
A spool holder using 608 bearings (I used [608zz](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07216D1SZ)) and 8mm rods that prints in a single piece. I didn't like how other spool holders either required a specific spool width or required many different parts to print. This part prints in a single piece, then you use a heat gun to warm up the lids and push them down to be flat over the bearing holding it in place. You just have to cut the 8mm rod to the right size. The Fusion 360 file is attached, it uses two parameters - the rod length and the separation between rods. The separation works from 80mm-95mm ish, wider is more stable. The rod length already has tolerance built into the print, so simply put in the actual length of your cut rods and it will fit with about 2mm to spare on each side. I also used the Parametric Text plugin to put the lengths as extruded text on the base of it. I printed with PLA using PrusaSlicers adaptive layer height setting from 0.15mm-0.3mm layer heights, though really you could print the whole thing at 0.3mm layer height and it would be fine. Use your heat gun on a lid piece until you see it move on its own, then just use your fingers to bend it down into place and hold it there for 10-15 seconds so it cools back below the PLA glass transition temperature of 60°C.
