This is a custom 3D printed filament spool holder created specifically for Joel's 3D Printing Nerd competition. The assembly comprises two main components: a compact hanger and a section of standard 1/2 inch PVC tubing. The hanger fits snugly over the narrow edges of Joel's wooden shelves, which I've replicated here to facilitate testing. It is simple to lift and reposition as needed to drop spools in any desired location on the shelf before starting your next print job. After experimenting with various widths, I found that 17mm provided an optimal fit for the wood strips. Meanwhile, a 21.64mm hole positioned at a 20-degree angle allowed for a secure fit of the PVC tubing and ensured the perfect printing angle. With this design, you have the flexibility to trim the PVC to suit your specific spool sizes. The printed part took approximately 45 minutes to complete on my Prusa i3MK2 3D printer.
