Spool expander segment
thingiverse
I have a small 1/2kg filament spool with a tiny hub diameter, causing the filament to be wound extremely tight. The back tension became strong enough for the extruder to yank the spool stand completely over! I wanted to reuse this spool for a brand new 50m sample of filament, so I decided to make some hub packers. This project was an excellent way for me to get familiar with OpenSCAD since I'm just starting out. I printed all three segments at once using a brim to join them together perfectly. I've included the photo of all three because they appear to be different due to an optical illusion. // UPDATE APRIL 17 // I have added Version 2 of the program, which includes code that's been thoroughly tidied up and now features a hole for holding filament. I have also added STL for a segment to fit the Rigid.Ink spool. This STL should only use just under 10m of filament to print. When I finish printing, the last third of filament is usually quite tight on the spool, so I like to rewind it loosely onto an empty and expanded spool by hand.
