Spool Core to SNAP into Cardboard spools
thingiverse
Easy click in and out spool core. This one fits Overature and Duramic spools or any at the 54.5-56mm dia core and spool width up to 70 mm. Due to the clip design, spool core would need to be within 1mm to 2mm from the actual spool diameter to get a good snap. I had once upon a time printed a core someone else had made for a different spool that fit, but all the clips broke off within a month and it had some ridges designed for whatever system they had made it for. This one has 6 clips designed to flex on install and removal. Prints with no supports. I also raised the center of gravity on spool to reduce resistance. PLA is just fine as there is lots distribution of stresses allowed in the print design. I have been printing in a lot of flex. When the spools started showing up in cardboard there was a noticeable amount of resistance on full spools when on the printer trapeze. This returns the ease of motion. If someone needs different dimensions for something you have let me know… spool core diameter and spool width at the core. The initial use I have is for Overture and Duramic. It is a snug 54.5mm diameter and will slide into a spool up to 70mm wide. Updates 8/2023: Note the new snap in cores are best released by reaching in and pushing on the back of the clip. I added individual snap in hubs. Increased the diameter to make them snug and added a lock that prevent the core from shifting. Full edge 200mm cover with the snap in core. Seams to fit the thinner duramic and larger Overture spool wall. Not I did add 5 small clips to the 200mm ring to prevent it from coming off. The cardboard is very soft and I don't see this as something you would pop off and on frequently. Installed gives a nice feel. I added some 200mm rings with rumble strips.
