Spool Carousel

As I print more, empty filament spools pile up, but they still hold potential. So, I designed this carousel bearing rig to repurpose them into a useful caddy. To get started, simply add standard air gun BBs as bearings. There are two designs available: one for the side of the spool with the middle section inset and another for the side of the spool with the middle flush. I used the inset version to create a tool carousel showcased in the picture. It's essential to note that drawer liner material is necessary to prevent tools from slipping when they're dropped into place. Another one will be used as an air brush carousel. These versatile designs could also be employed to hold filament if you load your filled spools horizontally. Since your spools might differ from mine, I've included a picture of the simple design that can be reproduced in Fusion 360 by sketching it and then revolving it. Apply a few fillets as needed for a seamless fit. The retention ring plays a crucial role in keeping everything together. You can secure it with a dab of "quick glue" at a few spots along the ring, or opt for black tape around the perimeter, stretching it tight to achieve a strong hold.
