Spool Adaptor for use with a bearing

Spool Adaptor for use with a bearing

thingiverse

A spool adaptor with bearing for smooth, low force filament feed to the extruder is designed for optimal performance. Modeled in Fusion360 two years ago, it draws inspiration from conical bearings found on Thingiverse. In response to a request on the 3Dprinting subreddit, this design was posted. The Parametric Universal Spool Holder on Thingiverse offers an alternative solution, utilizing larger bearings and a greater radius cone tip. This adaptor is designed with a narrower top cone to accommodate more filament spools. It suits an 8mm rod, featuring a bearing ID of 8 mm, an OD of 16 mm, and a width of 5 mm. A press fit assembly is employed. To secure the adaptors in place, clips are required, similar to bookends on an 8mm rod. These clips can be obtained from the Parametric Universal Spool Holder mentioned earlier. For optimal results, it is recommended to print the clips in PET, as this material retains its elasticity (snap fit) significantly longer than PLA. However, PLA clips may eventually stress relieve and become loose after a few months on the rod. STL, STEP, and Fusion360 files are included with this design for easy access and modification.
