Splitted baby Dory remix
thingiverse
This is a remix of ChaosCoreTech's Baby Dory: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1704751. I split it in two halves to avoid printing it with supports after someone asked in the original comment section which motivated me to do it myself. I printed at 60% of the provided STL file size, which is ChaosCoreTech's original file size. To split it, I used Blender and then lowered the number of faces to export it as a 3DS file to import it into Sketchup and finally export it to STL - there must be a simpler way, feel free to add suggestions in comments. Print Settings: Printer: DiscoEasy200 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.15 mm Infill: 17% Notes: As Dory is split into two parts lying on the flank, no supports are needed. As there are the two parts printed at the same time, there's no problem with too hot filament on the fins. I printed at 60% of the provided STL file size which is ChaosCoreTech's original file size. I suggest not printing it smaller than that as fins are really fragile at 60%. It took me 1h40 and 14g PLA to print it with an infill of 17% and 0.15 mm resolution. Post-Printing: Paint job It took a little bit of sanding to obtain a smooth surface. I then used mastic spray for car bodywork to smooth it more. Universal white spray primer applied in two layers. Acrylic paint applied with small paintbrushes - I don't have an airbrush but ChaosCoreTech's wife paint job made me want to buy one! Two or three layers were applied. Spray varnish, three layers.
