https://youtu.be/gd3dIFpSpE8 Split flap clocks have been around for quite some time now in alarm clocks and train stations. The mechanism is surprisingly simple, making it easy to work with. By increasing the rotationspeed, it can also function as a kinematoscope, producing a zoetrope-like effect (thanks Kongorilla). The movie is quick and rough because I didn't have the patience to create nice series of drawings. I'm sure you'll be able to do better. The motor used is a popular mini geared motor. When choosing the battery voltage, make sure it's below the motor voltage to reduce the rotation speed. The stop bar on top can be rotated for good synchronisation. The wheel is printed twice. On one side, an M3 screw is inserted and secured with a nut. On the other side, it receives the motor shaft. The two halves are connected using two M3 screws. The flaps are inserted by bending them slightly.
