Split X-Ends for Prusa i3 - fully parametrized
thingiverse
I like to use ends with these flexing tubes to hold the linear bearings. The tubes from Prusa i3 Rework are great because they don't need any screws or cable binders. But, these tubes have to be printed vertically to work properly and that makes printing the rest of the end a challenge because it tends to warp or even crack. In this project, I figured out how to print both parts at once by splitting the end into two pieces that fit together perfectly when each is printed in its best orientation. The new X-ends for the Prusa i3 have motor ends, idler ends with tensioners and stops, which all benefit from improved strength due to optimal printing conditions. The tubes are split so one part runs along the Z-axis while the other aligns with the X-axis when flipped 90 degrees for better printing quality. They then meet using a trapezoidal joint that clicks securely in place once an inserted X-rod is set into it. This allows each tube to maintain optimal tension without compromising stability. Idler forks for 623ZZ, 604ZZ, 624Z and more ball bearings can be pre-set. My end also includes the option of integrating Z-stop adjustment screws. For the stop itself, I designed a sliding attachment which locks in place with M3x10 screws to each rod while holding steady without the aid of springs. These SCAD files are fully customizable to your printer's specifications and needs so you can change whatever you want or need. The included STLs even contain extra designs like ball bearing types that people frequently use. However, please note if your 45mm rod distance and M5 threaded rods do not fit what's in these STL files you may want to switch it for the ones from 60mm between the X-rod, the rest are all configured as well for it.
