NEW Version 2 has been posted One of the biggest advantages of the Sony HDR-AZ1 Upgrade is the fact that there is a convenient flat lens mount available, which greatly improves underwater performance compared to the curved lens in the current SPK-AZ1 model. Despite the high quality of the Zeiss lens, the curved lens can cause out-of-focus video, making it unusable for many applications. This upgrade helps correct this issue with great success. The front side of the flat lens will sit approximately 1.5 mm away from the rear of the HDR-AZ1 camera lens. Please see the instruction page for more information and required hardware. A STEP file is included with version 2, which enables anyone to make any desired modifications to this upgrade themselves. Instructions Please DO print this using a high-quality filament that maintains the waterproof nature of the SPK-AZ1, such as PETG or TPU. You will need two additional items for this modification: some high-quality double-sided tape, preferably 3M VHB 4926 available in 1.5" discs from Digikey or other suppliers, and a UV filter with a removable glass component. Installation Carefully break the seal of the existing adhesive on the SPK-AZ1 by gently prying the front lens away from the housing, then clean off all remaining residue. Apply a small circle of 3M tape where the previous tape was located. Press the flat modifier firmly onto the housing, removing any air bubbles and ensuring good adhesion. Next, attach another piece of tape to the top edge of the modifier. Place the removable glass from your UV filter inside the modified housing and carefully press it firmly into place, ensuring all surfaces are clean. As an additional safety note: This upgrade has been successfully implemented by the manufacturer with positive results; however, results may vary depending on the individual setup.
