Spirit Rover Path
myminifactory
Richard Kim's robotic Mars exploration mission saw Spirit drive an astonishing 4.8 miles, more than 12 times its initial goal. The robot traversed a vast plain to reach a distant range of hills that seemed like mere bumps on the horizon from its landing site. With its incredible agility, Spirit conquered slopes as steep as 30 degrees, becoming the first robot to summit a hill on another planet. Even when its right-front wheel became immobile in 2006, Spirit persevered, covering over half a mile and continuing its mission with unwavering determination. During its remarkable journey, the rover returned an astonishing 124,000 images, meticulously grinding off 15 rock targets and scouring 92 others with a brush to prepare them for inspection with spectrometers and a microscopic imager. The Spirit Path is a testament to human ingenuity and technological prowess.
