Spiral vase with small cup
thingiverse
I used a grey vase already one week filled with water and flowers printed with PLA and it survived without any issues. A spiral vase and a cup with similar shapes were printed for testing purposes. The smaller piece was created as a test model before printing out the bigger vase. The photo shows the first print after one week of usage and fills me with satisfaction knowing it survived the trial. I printed the vase using a single continuous layer setting, which turned out great in my opinion. However, the blue vase still has some small holes in the bottom layers that need to be tightened before calling it complete. I found that examining the print carefully especially on the bottom layer is essential for avoiding any future issues. The small cup is both nice and useful for tuning my print settings which helped a lot. I also created an example transport case using PLA which was 3D printed with the same setting as the vase except massive printing wasn't used as it would have been too thick for transportation purposes. The case provided excellent protection for the vase during travel. It has been noted that some minor adjustments may be required on the inside of the cover to get a snug fit on the case but this isn't something to worry about. Those interested in this design can also check out a similar item I found online which is http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1063929. The details for my print settings are listed below. Printer brand used was RepRap, and printer model was Prusa i3. Resolution used was 0.1mm and infill was not applied to the design for the reason I thought it unnecessary but also did provide benefits such as lighter weight. I must note that a special set of g-code settings were used generated from Slic3r using a spiral vase option at 0.1 mm sheet height, while they also gave some good wall coverage PLA filament flow was increased by 120% so to provide a better barrier against water for the pieces.
