A captivating spiral fractal unfolds as an affine iterated functional system comes alive, vividly illustrated on the esteemed Yale website www.yale.edu/fractals/labs/SpiralsLab/SpiralsLab.html . In fact, this intricate pattern is fundamentally a 2D fractal; however, I cleverly project it onto a three-dimensional plane using a box-shaped initiator and display each iteration progressing upward in a captivating manner. At Centre College, in association with a comprehensive course on chaotic dynamics and fractal geometry, a Form1+ printer brings this visually stunning spiral to life. The creative process is achieved through an innovative application of transformations, which are iteratively applied to the vertices of triangles covering the initiator cube using Matlab software. The script outputs a fascinating ascii stl file, with each triangle displayed separately, allowing for a truly unique visual representation.
