Spinning Top
thingiverse
Create a unique spinning top in Sketchup and print it in two pieces. Glue them together after printing, leaving an open space for testing MakerBot Replicator's spanning ability. Attach the pieces with four drops of superglue at their corners or use separate .stl files for two-color printing. Watch it spin on this YouTube video: http://youtu.be/m3AUyN1N6Ls. For a new version, visit Thingiverse at www.thingiverse.com/thing:31671. To assemble the spinning top, print the "spinning top.stl" file without raft or support. Apply a small drop of superglue on each flat "corner's" part and join them carefully. Wait for the glue to dry before spinning. Remember not to use a raft for a smooth build platform surface. Be cautious when removing it from the surface, as it may be weak before complete assembly. For better printing results, adjust settings: 50% object infill and .2 layer height. (See screenshot of Gcode window.)
