# Spinning String (or Earbud cord) Wrap I have several labs that require eight 2m long ~1/16" (2mm) strings. These strings are a pain to keep organised and regularly became a tangled mess in their box. Well no more! I originally found this [thing:967001](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:967001) by [DesignSpark](https://www.thingiverse.com/DesignSpark) which I really like but it was too small and I found the sharp edges of the "handle" kept scratching my finger and thumb as I unwound the string so I redesigned my own. My version has beveled edges to give better bed adhesion without support, a larger handle so I can more easily hold it while unraveling the string, I also changed the angles of the split so that it doesn't need support in that area. I added a hole in the handle to enable me to hang them on a nail or a loop or large wire keyring. They now work perfectly for my application which is storing a length of ~1/16" (2mm) string. It is super fast to unwind the strings and winding them up is much faster than winding them on three fingers and then tying a knot. Thanks [DesignSpark](https://www.thingiverse.com/DesignSpark) for the inspiration. The part prints well for me with no support. ## Videos - Wrapping the string - https://viuvideos.viu.ca/id/0_29aqo6hv - Unwrapping the string - https://viuvideos.viu.ca/id/0_d1uuonvc - Printing - https://viuvideos.viu.ca/id/0_ao9abehr ## Printer settings I sliced with Cura and printed them on an Artillery Sidewinder X1 with the following settings and material: - PLA (I used black from Tinkerine) - 0.2mm layer height. - 10% gyroid infill. - 2 shells. - Extruder temperature 210 degrees C. - Build plate temperature 55 degree C. - No support. - Brim on. ## Assembly - Clean off the brims and any support and then spin it a few times to make sure the winding pin is clean. Mine come of the printer pretty loose. ### Post data - Posted: 211201 - Last edit: 211206 - Removed "- I added support manually in Cura under the arch."
