Spindle with proper insert
thingiverse
I printed 2 of these from the original but found the PLA spindles did not make me happy with the build. I accidently applied too much hand pressure when inserting them into the holder - one broke off. I redesigned this spindle with using the spacer as pictured that came from an old pair of roller blades. All inline skates have them with the 608zz bearings. The mounting hole is a little larger as I found that the PLA must squash a bit when being 3d printed. 10.4 mm I found was a nice snug fit. I placed a little low temp hot glue (dollar store type into the cavity and pushed in a slightly warmed up spindle into the hole. Fits great ! As far as the bearings go they are a little stiff by nature as they have a more viscous lubricant than needed. Soak them in acetone for 6 hours in a capped container (pill bottle) - shake and spin them occasionally. Dry them in a toaster oven @225 for 15 min, let cool. Again soak them in a Silicone based lubricant for 30 min, pat them down nd install. The spindle spins much freer. Spindle is 98mm long.
