Spindle Whorl, Edinburgh Castle
sketchfab
This ancient stone spindle whorl originated from a tool crafted to create yarn. The central hole would have been fitted with a wooden or bone shaft in the past. Wool could be attached to a notch at the top of this device. As the stone weight was spun by hand, the wool would twist into yarn that could be woven into fabrics for various uses. It was discovered during archaeological excavations conducted between 1989 and 1991 within Edinburgh Castle.
