Spindle switch box for CNC 20mm section mounting
thingiverse
I've got a budget-friendly Chinese 1610 desktop CNC router that offers exceptional value for money. Still, I opted to prioritize safety and convenience by isolating the spindle motor from the power supply during tool changes and when using the motor power feed with a laser module. This decision was driven by the need to create a safer working environment, especially when hands are near a functioning cutter or tool. To achieve this, I designed a switch that can be installed away from the motor, ensuring it's easily accessible even if the machine is in use during isolation procedures. The design consists of two parts, which allows for smooth printing on my XYZPrinting Jr. 1.0 3D printer. The frame-connector simply fits into the switch box recess and is secured with a small amount of superglue. The protruding bits at the bottom should slide snugly into the end of a frame section. The OpenSCAD file used for this design is included, enabling modifications to be made if necessary or saving time when connecting another project to a frame end. A snugness ratio variable has been added at the top of the code, allowing users to adjust it if they find the frame inserts too loose or tight for their specific frame (the value of 0.95 worked perfectly for me). This design can be used with any 20mm-section framed CNC, not just the 1610 model. Its applications extend beyond spindle power isolation, making it a versatile addition to various projects.
