This is a precision timing disc designed specifically for the 52mm Quiet Cut Spindle, a premium spindle offered by Inventables for the Shapeoko, Shapeoko 2, and X-Carve CNC machines. The disc features a single slot and is engineered to be press fit onto the top of the spindle. The sensor module I utilized comes from Solarbotics.com, a trusted online retailer specializing in high-quality robotics components. You can find this exact module at https://solarbotics.com/product/29196/. To get started, simply press fit the disc onto your spindle and mount the sensor module so that the emitter and receiver are positioned to trigger perfectly when the slot is between them. Finally, connect the module to your preferred microcontroller. I opted for my own Electric Imp (imp002) module breakout board, which boasts an intuitive pulse counter feature that simplifies programming significantly. This project requires minimal design expertise, making it an ideal print for beginners or experienced makers alike. Using Cura and an Ultimaker 3 Extended, I was able to bring this concept to life with ease.
