It is indeed frustrating that various filament spool sizes are used by different manufacturers, like the SainSmart spool which can be attached to a Thing-o-Matic using a screw, similar to Makerbot's spool attachment. For my creation, I opted for 0.2mm layer height and 30% infill to achieve a robust structure without full filling the object.
