Spindle Edge Clips
thingiverse
To resolve filament slipping off the Thing-O-Matic's Mk1 Spindle, leading to print jams, I designed four clips using OpenSCAD. These clips keep the filament on the spool base by fitting as outside edges for the spindle. However, there were two minor issues: insufficient room inside the box for mounting the clips externally and slight catching at the back side by the feed hole. The first issue was resolved by cutting notches in the bottom of the spool. The second problem turned out to be negligible as the extruder easily pulled the filament over the peg with a click. For installation, dismantle the Mk1 Spindle, determine the desired notch positions on the spool based on clip size, and cut 5mm deep notches. Finally, reassemble the spindle for jam-free printing. The SCAD file is attached for adjustments if needed.
